Use a PPC Phone as a modem with another WM5 PPC

Suppose you have a PDA like the HP iPAQ 2490/2790/214 and you want to use you HTC as a dialup modem (assuming your HTC does support DUN profile. If it doesn’t then you can install it using a cab file, but more on that later). In this example I will assume we are using an iPAQ with the WidcommSo here are the steps you need to follow:
iPAQ
- Start – Settings – Connections tab – Connections – Manage existing connections
- Create a new modem connection
- Enter a name for the connection: GPRS (or anything else you like)
- Select a modem: Bluetooth dialup modem
- Tap Next
- Dialup number: *99#
- Tap Next
- TapAdvanced
- Set the connection speed to 115200 and make sure that Wait for dialtone is not checked
- In the extra initialization commands box write:
+CGDCONT=1,"IP","YourProvidersAPN" - Tap OK and then Finish.
If at any point the connection requests a user, password and domain (and those have not been provided by your mobile company) then use: user, pass, and leave domain blank.
PPC Phone
- Enable bluetooth on the phone device and make it discoverable.
- Enable bluetooth on the iPAQ as well.
- On the iPAQ, go to Start – Settings – Connections – Bluetooth
- Tap on Bluetooth Manager
- Tap on New, select Connect to the internet via a phone and then tap Next.
- Select unknown, phone not listed and tap Next.
- Tap Next at the prompt to turn on the bluetooth on the phone device.
- Select the PPC Phone in the list of detected devices.
- Use 0000 as a Passkey to connect to the phone and tap Next
- On the phone device we allow the connection coming from the iPAQ and we enter the same passkey.
- Check the box that says Use this phone as a default connection to the internet and from the list we select the GPRS connection we created earlier.
- Tap Next and then Finish.
